    Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute document EP25-A–Evaluation of Stability of In Vitro Diagnostic Reagents; Approved Guideline provides guidance and regression-based procedures for establishing stability-related claims of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) reagents such as reagent kits, calibrators, control products, and sample diluents. This guideline was written primarily for manufacturers and regulatory agencies, but will also be of interest to clinical laboratories. It provides information on the design, implementation, data analysis, and documentation needs for studies to establish and verify shelf life and in-use life of IVD reagents. Additional topics address assessment of product transport conditions on stability and accelerated stability testing.

It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. For a specific caution statement, see 19.1.

    Former Test Methods B (Colorimetric Amino Reduction) and C (Colorimetric Molybdovanadophosphate) have been discontinued. Refer to Appendix X1 for historical information.

    This Standard reflects the collective knowledge and experience of the Deaerator Technical Committee, and is reviewed and discussed during regularly scheduled meetings. This process insures that the Standard will be regularly updated to reflect the changes in technology, codes, and member experience. This Standard continues to be influenced by the work of other organizations, such as American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), NACE International, The Corrosion Society, and the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry. Special consideration and credit is given to NACE and TAPPI, for their extensive research on deaerator pressure vessel cracking. Particular attention and credit is given to NACE Standard RPO 590-90. Adherence to this Standard is strongly recommended. Comments and suggestions for the improvement of this Standard are always welcome and should be directed in writing to the Deaerator Section at the Institute’s address.
